Metal Art 3-D Pine Tree

9 August 2010

Metal Art 3-D Pine TreeReady for an industrial engineering lesson? A plasma cutter feeds an inert gas—sometimes just compressed air—through an electrical arc. The science behind how this works and what makes something a plasma (plasma is the fourth state of matter) might be a topic for another blog, but let’s just say that this heated gas melts the metal and blows the melted portion away from the cut line. This method allows for a detailed cut and precise curvature.

Plasma cutting was used to create this Metal Art 3-D Pine Tree, and the detailed branches are a testament to a plasma cutter’s unique capabilities. The rusted 18-gauge steel makes a very nice medium as well. In this piece, science and art come together to create unique and interesting cabin decor.

Aspen Creek TV Console Table

16 July 2010

Aspen Creek TV Console TableEverything is getting greener these days. One trend in eco-friendly home design is the use of standing dead lumber, the practice of harvesting already dead trees instead of live ones. The goal is to make good use of natural resources, clear the way for new forest growth and reduce forest fire danger. Another advantage to standing dead lumber is that it provides a source of local industry. US forests offer a sustainable supply of lumber in the form of already dead trees, offering great potential for furniture and log home manufacturing industries.

Aside from practicality, standing dead wood has its aesthetic benefits as well. It gives furniture and construction a natural aged look that holds up well and fits in with a rustic décor scheme. The Aspen Creek TV Console Table, handmade in the USA from standing dead aspen logs, has knotty, bark-on accents that provide a perfectly woodsy cabin look.

And if you’ve fallen in love with it, there are more aspen log products where it came from. Here’s an accompanying Aspen Creek Log Bear Bed and matching rustic nightstand. All of these pieces feature the same natural log look, and the bed and nightstand also make use of recycled barnwood for an even greater environmental bonus.

30 May 2010

Wagon Wheel Picnic Table

Wagon wheels epitomize the founding of the American west.  No other thing was more essential to early travel than these wood and iron monoliths.  Reclaimed wagon wheels have now become a foundation for modern Western Decor.  The Prairieland Picnic Table utilizes two wagon wheels as well as reclaimed teak wood planks for the table top and attached benches.  It sports a red “antiqued” finish to complete the western feel.

Western furniture tends to be sturdy and long lasting.  This picnic table will weather nicely when exposed to the elements, but will also be a fully functional conversation piece when placed in your western style home.  It measures 75″W x 60″D x 45″H and weighs approximately 330 pounds.  You will definitely need a strong base for this table.  You will also want to be sure the setting is spacious enough to not be overpowered by such a large focal point.

The Prairieland Picnic Table is imported and you will need to allow 8 to 12 weeks for shipping.  It will be sent on a freight truck and will require a signature at the time of receipt.  It will be a curbside delivery and you will have to make your own arrangements for the final placing of your picnic table.  But for all of that, it will be dramatic addition to your western decor collection.
